William Valls, Sr. Obituary

Middleburgh – William Valls, of State Route 145, found peace on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the VA Medical Center in Albany.

Bill was born 75 years ago on May 10, 1945 in the Bronx, to Sylvia (Schott) and Cornelius Valls.  Following graduation from Taft High School in 1964, Bill was drafted into the Army and served with the First Cav. Division 2nd and 7th from 1965-1967 during Vietnam.  For his bravery, Bill was awarded the Bronze Star of Valor, two Purple Hearts and an Air Medal for distinguished acts of service.  He was inducted into the Military Order of the Purple Heart and served as Vice-Commander of the MOPH, Newburgh, NY.  Bill was also a lifetime member of the First Cav. Division Association.

Upon his honorable discharge, Bill first worked with the Marble Setters Union prior to becoming a NYC Taxi Cab driver for 17 years before retiring.

Bill enjoyed deep sea fishing, boating, collecting Zippo lighters and spending time with his family, especially during 4th of July celebrations. His passion though was for visiting and reminiscing with family and friends, especially his former Lieutenant Robert Moore and his “foxhole buddy” Paul Stossner.  Bill could always be counted on to warm the hearts of those around him with a joke, a smile and a warm cup of coffee waiting for friends and neighbors.

He will be loved, honored and remembered forever by his wife: Margaret Valls of Middleburgh; his children: Kellie Ann (Joseph) Rabbitt of Middleburgh, William Valls, Jr. of Cobleskill, Robert Valls of Middleburgh, Daniel (Jessie) Valls of Berne; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Rabbitt (Joshua Coonradt) Joseph R. Rabbitt, Shannon Valls, Melissa Valls, Emmett Valls; great-grandson: Thomas Valls; brother: Arthur Valls of Middleburgh and many friends and extended family members.  Bill was predeceased by his parents and his brother: David Valls.

All are invited to visit with Bill’s family from 1:00-3:00PM on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC of Middleburgh.  Facial coverings and distancing will be respected by all attending.  A private funeral service will be held for Bill’s family, with Military Honors.
