Vera Shaul Obituary

Vera Shaul of Middleburgh died at home on April 29th after a long illness.

Vera left high school in Collins, MS to work at the Gulf Coast for the World War II effort.  She met her husband there, and returned with him to his home in Fultonham.  As a child, she picked cotton on the family farm, and enjoyed working outside throughout her life.  Over the years she worked at General Electric Co., The Swiss Inn, The Parrott House, Shaul Farms, The Old Stone Fort, The Everything Shoppe, and Middleburgh Central School.  She was a caregiver for her mother-in-law Lena for many years, and later for her husband.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Shaul, by her 6 siblings – Freddie, Tabo, Bud, Doe, Evelyn, and Jim, her parents Frederick and Mary Alma and by her good friend Dale Bouck.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jo-Anne and Thomas Gruning, by her grandsons Anton Tabo Gruning (Gabrielle DeReu) and Charles Balentine, and by 4 great-grandchildren – Hailey, Hannah, Ella, and Rowan Balentine.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Donna (Mary Morin) Wright, Lisa (Scott) Carter, Dorothy Shaul, Jeanne (Phil) Terry, John Shaul, and Marcy (Gary) Sammons, and good friend Carla Walker.

Because she chose to be a part of the Albany Medical Center Anatomical Gift Program, there will be no immediate services.  By her request, a gathering will be held in her honor on Sunday July 24 at her daughter’s home in Middleburgh.
