Robert E. Stumpf

Robert E. Stumpf, of Huntersland Road, died Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Cooperstown Center, where he was receiving care.

Bob, or “Stumpy” as he was known to colleagues, was born 69 years ago, on June 15, 1953 in Meadowbrook, NY to Rose (Johnson) and William J. Stumpf, Sr.  He attended Middleburgh School and worked for the Schoharie County Highway Department for 37 years before retiring.  “Stumpy” could be heard across the airwaves of the scanner and you knew help was on the way, especially in bad weather. “Stumpy” absolutely loved plowing snow, clearing and cleaning off roads and driveways for his neighbors, family and friends. Laughter and stories over coffee, on Friday mornings at Mrs. K’s Kitchen and his kindness and willingness to put others before himself are his legacy.  Bob was also an active member of the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Department and the Gas Up in Gallupville for many years.  He loved tinkering on old equipment and his tractors in his leisure, as well as camping.

Bob will be loved forever by his wife: Christine (Schanz) Stumpf, of Huntersland; brother: William J. (Audrey) Stumpf, of Middleburgh; sisters-in-law: Jennifer Schanz of Middleburgh, Joan (Richard) Bell of Tennessee; brothers-in-law: Alfred Schanz, Robert Schanz, both of Middleburgh, Rodney Schanz, of Greenville; many nieces, nephews and friends and colleagues from his days at the County Highway Department.  He was predeceased by his sister: Dorothy Schanz; brother: Fred Stumpf; sister-in-law: Dawn Schanz

A memorial service will be held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh.  Inurnment will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery.  All are invited to visit with his family from 11:00AM-12:00PM, prior to the service.
