Marion Vamosy

Middleburgh – Marion Vamosy, 81, of Warrior Way and formerly of Schoharie, died peacefully Tuesday, June 2, 2020 following a brief illness and a brave fight with cancer.

Born on November 20, 1938 in Albany to Margaret (Bellinger) and Irving Stifflear, Marion graduated from Schoharie Central School in 1957, from SUNY Cobleskill in 1959, and later from the Albany School of Practical nursing.  Marion worked many different positions through the years, as an airline announcer for the Port Authority at JFK, a nurse in the offices of Dr. Garder and Dr. Vrolijk, and eventually as a driver with the Schoharie County ARC, which she enjoyed very much.  Marion also served as the Schoharie Town Clerk for several years.  In addition to her jobs outside of the home, Marion was a loving mother to her children and spent many years caring for her mother.

A beautiful old Hymn titled “In My Heart There Rings a Melody” describes Marion’s spirit and joy perfectly.  Whether she was playing a keyboard or the accordion, her love of music resonated through her life.  She played with Brand’s Band and Bill Becker and the Good Time Band at many round and square dances; especially fond were her memories of the Schoharie Fire House where she met her husband Fred.   Most recently, she enjoyed singing with her friends in the “Hot Pots,” senior music group.  Marion was a member of the Middleburgh Golden Age Club, the Red Hat Society, served on the Board of Directors of the Marathon for a Better Life and sang with Frances Tripp and the Depot Lane Singers.  Marion also relished hosting parties, gatherings and practice sessions with friends at her home.

Marion’s spirit joins her beloved husband Fred, her step-daughter Kathrine Andersen and her best friend and “partner in crime” Cherie Stevens who all predeceased her.

Cherishing her love and memory forever are her daughter: Fay (Ronald) Smith; her son: Fred “Jim” Vamosy, Jr; her granddaughters: Olivia and Chloe Smith, all of Middleburgh; her brother: Earl (Marilyn) Stifflear of Brevard, NC; her niece and nephews: Danielle Driscoll of Avon, NY, Luke Stifflear of Hinsdale, IL, Patrick Stifflear, of Avon, NY; her step-daughters: Susan Stancil of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Janet Hartwell of Hinesville, Georgia, their families and many friends.

A memorial service will be at the family's convenience at a later date and they appreciate you remembering her and them through this time.  They also wish to extend their gratitude to the volunteers of MEVAC for their care and professionalism.
