Obituary

James E. Heiser passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 7, 2021, following a brave fight with Lewy-Body Dementia.

Jim was born 74 years ago in Amsterdam, NY on March 21, 1946 to Frances (Leneker) and Clinton Heiser. Jim graduated from Canajoharie Central School and received his AAS in Civil Engineering from Mohawk Valley Community College.  Of all his work history, Jim was proudest of using his degree and knowledge for 28 years with Lamont Engineers in Cobleskill as a Project Manager, before retiring in 2011.

Jim loved being active in his community and served over 30 years as Councilman for the Town of Fulton and also served on the Board of Directors for Schoharie County Community Action Program, the NY Rural Waters Association, the Southeastern NY Water Works Conference, Valley Soccer Club and Capital District Youth Soccer League.  He shared his passion for sports with many, coaching several generations of soccer players with the Valley Soccer Club. Jim also loved playing softball, golf, pistol league, hunting, watching NASCAR and local auto races.  He was a member of the West Fulton Rod & Gun Club, the Canajoharie High School Alumni Association and also oversaw the growing and harvesting of his family’s hops for several years.  While active with sports and his community, nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his family and friends.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and recently on March 1, 2021 by his brother: Virgil Heiser.

Loving him forever are his wife: Catherine “Kitty” Heiser, of Watsonville, whom he married on April 2, 1977; his sons: John (Lisa) Heiser of Cooperstown, Scott (Cora) Heiser of Delmar, George (Suzanne) Byrnes of Haslet, TX; grandchildren: Hannah, Skyler, Ethan, Evelyn, Logan and Sydney; sister-in-law: Judy Heiser of Canajoharie and many nieces, nephews and friends.
