Henry J. Michel, of Duanesburg, found eternal peace on Monday, July 12, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany.
Born 66 years ago on August 6, 1954 in Amityville to Doris (Stewart) and Henry A. Michel, he grew up on Long Island before moving to Huntersland and graduating from Middleburgh Central School in 1972, then attended Hudson Valley Community College. Henry was a fixture, as much as any hardware, at Home Depot for over 20 years, helping patrons with their needs. Most recently, Henry could be found stocking shelves at Hannaford in Esperance, always taking time to share a signature joke, smile and laugh, leading his great-niece to firmly believe he was the “silliest man she ever met!” He loved wood working and tinkering on things, a bona fide “Mr. Fix It.” Henry was also happiest on the lawn mower, tending to the vegetables in his garden and relaxing the hours away through the years at his former camp on Huntersland Road.
Henry will be loved forever by his daughter: Melissa (Steven) Wick of Cobleskill; his grandson: Jonathan Wick of Cobleskill; sisters: Doreen (Gary) McCoy of Middleburgh, Kathleen Michel- Hayes of Raleigh, NC and Theresa (Peter) Mason of Loudonville; his brother: Michael (Terrey) Streath of South Carolina; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his dear friend: Trina Hillicoss of Cobleskill.
All are invited to visit with Henry’s family from 1:00-2:00PM on Friday, July 23, 2021 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC 134 River St. Middleburgh. A memorial service will follow at 2:00PM on Friday at the funeral home, with Fr. Thomas Zelker officiating. Inurnment will take place in Middleburgh Cemetery.
Memorials in Henry’s honor are requested to a local food pantry of your choice.
