Daniel Hotaling Obituary

Middleburgh - Daniel Dean Hotaling was welcomed home to heaven on Saturday, August 22, 2020 surrounded by his loving family, from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

Daniel was the son of Loren T. and Ruth (Brown) Hotaling. Born April 30th 1938 on Clove Road, Hyndesville.

Daniel AKA Dan, Danny, Dan-Ho, Pops and Poppy was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved his family, farming and hunting.

Many considered him the greatest cow-man they knew. He would try out the latest innovations

and new technologies that came along, such as calf hutches and tedding equipment before anyone in the area. He would breed his cows to the best bulls that were available and he was ecstatic when his first bred and owned made it to a national cattle show and placed.

Danny nurtured many young people, employing them on the family farm, Dan-Ho Farms and

giving them their first taste of employment, responsibility, guidance, values and expertise.

Danny was a United States Navy Veteran, and an active member of the community throughout

his years. He was a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, Cobleskill Elks, Middleburgh Rod & Gun Club, Schoharie County Holstein Club and he also served on many boards as a director or board member to Cooperative Extension, Eastern Breeders, Agway and DHIA.

He was a 4-H leader for the Middleburgh Huskies and Schoharie County Jr. Holstein club and received numerous awards and certificates for his milk production and quality of milk. He was also a supporter of the FFA.

Besides farming, which he loved, Danny enjoyed working with the guys from the Schoharie County Highway Department, his second career. He also loved being the milking supervisor at the Cobleskill Sunshine Fair which he did for 20 years.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Madeline (Peck) Hotaling; his children and

Grandchildren: Patricia (Arthur) Waldron, Skylar Waldron, Lenny Gary, Olivia Waldron, Jade Nystrom,  Pamela (David) Standhart, Cody (Lindsey) Standhart, Lindsay (Dalton) Jacquier, Penny (Fred) Merica, Danielle (Tom) Basch, Jenna Merica (Kate Deasy),  Darrin (Michelle) Hotaling, Jessica Brummett, Ethan Hotaling; great-grandchildren: Brayden, Isabella, and Bennett Basch, Casen and soon to be baby Standhart; sister: Hollis (James) Reylea; sisters-in-law: Marion Charletta, Janet (Neil) Smith, Angelica Peck; brother-in-law: Ralph Benham and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was predeceased by his parents and his in laws: Andy and Madeline Peck; his siblings: Joanne Fritz and Carson Hotaling; his sister-in-law: Carol Benham and brothers-in-law: Ronald Peck and Leon Charletta.

A long, hard-fought battle with PSP brought many new people into his life. Special thanks to his caregivers: Wendy, Paige, Carol, Pam, Sue, Crystal, Maggie, June, Alisha, Sylvia, Jade, and Desaree. Without their help, staying home would have not been an option.
