Huntersland – Camilla “Kay” A. Thorn, 86, went home to Heaven on Thursday, July 16, 2020.
Kay was born on August 5, 1933 in Carlisle, MA to Marion (Garthe) and Harold Eriksen and studied to become a Registered Nurse, eventually working at Lincoln Hall in Somers, NY.
Kay was gifted artistically and loved making crafts, sewing and making beautiful baby quilts. She was past president of the American Field Service and a founding member of the Northern Star Quilters Guild. She also enjoyed participating with the Huntersland Craft Group. Kay enjoyed being a Girl Scout Troop Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and past president of the Lake Lincolndale Property Owner’s Assoc. Kay also sang with the Somers Chorale, was a member and secretary of the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, enjoyed refinishing houses, tending to her gardens and traveling. She visited all 50 states and many countries and cultures over the years. She also loved sharing anecdotes, stories and jokes clipped from newspapers, magazines and through email with her family and friends. Kay was also a loved member of the Huntersland United Methodist Church family and was truly a beautiful spirit, full of love and compassion for all.
Besides her parents, Kay was predeceased by her sister: Jean Lumpkin.
Loving her forever are her husband: William G. Thorn, Jr.; her son: William G. Thorn, III, both of Huntersland; her daughters: Cynthia (Mike) Smith of Jackson, ME, Gloria (Scott) Spiers and Camilla (Tom) Hannmann, all of Huntersland; her grandchildren: Autumn Smith, Andrea Smith, Serandon Spiers, Ian Spiers, Sidney Spiers, Kila (Kevin) Rachedi, William (Tim) Hannmann, Nicholas Hannmann, Kathleen Hannmann and Aleah Hannmann; her great-grandchild: Astrid Lee; and many friends.
Visitation with Kay’s family will be from 5-7PM on Friday, July 24, 2020 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh. Facial mask protection and social distancing will be required and respected by all. A private memorial service will be held at the family’s convenience.
