Middleburgh – Alan R. Hanson found eternal peace from declining health on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Alan was born on May 28, 1963 in Cobleskill to Wini (Shaul) and Richard Hanson.
Bright, cheerful and kind, Alan made friends easily. He had a fondness for animals too, rescuing hurt ones, nursing and releasing them, though his mom refused to help the baby skunk she found in a nesting box in their basement. He especially loved his dogs, training them and showing them often. Alan graduated from Schoharie Central School and almost from day one, knew the value of a good day’s work. He loved to work, keeping his hands and mind busy all of the time. Alan became an avid trapper and prepared and sold his own hides. He also worked with his dad in landscaping, with Laborers’ Local #157 in Schenectady and at Schmidt’s Concrete in Middleburgh. Alan enjoyed antiques and attending the auction for treasures and he loved being around his home, tending to and raising his chickens and going on rides too. Many of those rides found him visiting family and friends, often sharing his devilish sense of humor and instigating his unique brand of trouble, all in fun with hearty laughter and his heart of gold.
Alan was predeceased by his father: Richard “Dick” Hanson; his grandparents: Merton and Mabel Shaul and Leonard and Evelyn Hanson and his great-grandparents: Daisy and Roosevelt Shaul and Albert and Florence Hanson.
Alan’s loving family includes his best friend and soulmate: Shena Pierce of Middleburgh; his children: Alan Hanson, Matthew Hanson (Allexis Ryder), Shyla Hanson (Rick Fink), Dustin Hanson (Jessica Krueger), all of Schoharie; his grandchildren: Keirsten Hanson, Sydney Hanson, Georgia Hanson, Kaylee Fink, Loretta Hanson, Alan Hanson; his mother and step-father: Wini and Ray Kennedy of Middleburgh; his siblings: Marilyn “Mert” (Bog) Diamond of Schoharie, William “Bill” (JoAnn) Hanson of Conesville, Celeste Parslow (Chris Bradt) of Schoharie, Raelyn (Marc) Mercer of Middleburgh; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his faithful four legged companion, “Mabel.”
While no formal services are planned, Alan’s family appreciates your remembering them through this time and requests you share a laugh and kindness in Alan’s honor with loved ones and friends, as he would have.
