Ronald Blackmur Obituary

Middleburgh – Ronald T. Blackmur, 76, of Gridley Road died suddenly Thursday, September 20, 2018 at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

Born in Brooklyn on August 28, 1942 to Caroline E. (Collins) and Robert V. Blackmur, Ron moved out to Sayville at the age of five.  He grew up with his two sisters and due to their father’s ill health, he joined the sheet metal trade at the age of 17 to help support the family.  The ocean and bay life ran through his blood and he spent many hours on the shores of Long Island clamming, fishing and boating.

In July of 1967 he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Risse.  They were married in Middleburgh on June 8, 1968 and just celebrated their 50th Anniversary.  Moving to Middleburgh in 1977, Ronald continued working on Long Island and NYC, commuting back to his family every weekend for 19 years.  He treasured the mountain views and the Schoharie Valley and lined his yard with bird houses, to welcome his purple martins and blue birds each year.  He loved spending time with family members and friends, especially his two grandchildren, Natalie and Evan.  Ron was always joking and talking to anyone who would listen and had more stories than the town library.  He loved spending time camping, enjoying the outdoors, working with model trains, drawing, painting and was an active member of the Schoharie Valley Lion’s Club.

Cherishing his life and love forever are his wife: Elizabeth C. Blackmur of Middleburgh; his sons: Robert Jason Blackmur of Troy and Shawn Joseph Blackmur and his wife Kimberly and their children, Ron’s beloved grandchildren: Natalie and Evan, all of Brooktondale, NY; his sisters: Carol Bender of Patchogue and Louise Delano and her husband John of South Pasadena, FL and extended family and friends beyond measure.

A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh.  Cremation will follow the service and interment will be private.  All are invited to visit with Ronald’s family on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
