Robert Varella Obituary

Middleburgh – Robert E. Varella, 93, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Baptist Nursing and Health Center in Scotia, following declining health.

Robert was born on June 18, 1925 to Elizabeth (Murmann) and Ismael Varella.  He proudly served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946.

A hard-working young man, Robert was a welder on submarines in Connecticut before going to work for General Electric and finally driving truck and retiring from the Freihofer Company.  He loved hunting and camping when his family was young, riding motorcycles and was a passionate bowler, alongside his wife.  His heart was tremendous and he gave his time and ability to all of his family and friends without expectation.

He was predeceased by his wife: Elizabeth Varella on August 9, 2004 and by his brothers: Ramon Varella and Charles Varella.

Robert’s loving family includes his daughters: Brenda Varella and Virginia A. Tinney, both of Middleburgh; sons: David (Amy) Varella of Raeford, NC, Raymon (Linda) Varella, of Iron Station, NC; grandson: Justin Varella of Leland, NC; granddaughter: Britney Cato of Ft. Bragg, NC; great-grandsons: Lucas and Ethan Varella.

All are invited to attend a graveside memorial service, with Military Honors, at 10:00AM on Monday, May 6, 2019 in Middleburgh Cemetery with Pastor David Houck officiating.
