Middleburgh – June N. Baker, 93, most recently of MT Path, died peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2019 from declining health.
June was born in Elmira, on June 16, 1925 to Ruth and Maxwell Baker.
She attended Elmira College, earning a Bachelor’s in History then did Graduate work at Colgate University. She also earned an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies from Liberty University.
In 1957, June drove over the hill and into the Middleburgh valley, falling in love with its beauty and the people there. She taught History at Middleburgh Central School until retiring in 1979. As great teachers do, June left an impression on many students, imparting her knowledge, experience and personal feelings, especially her devotion to F.D.R.
June loved traveling and also visiting the casinos. She was a member of the Middleburgh Reformed Church, the NYS Retired Teacher’s Association, and gave back to her community through service and membership in the Middleburgh Century Club.
Besides her parents, June was predeceased by her brother: Edwin Baker.
She will be loved forever by her sister: Marilyn Salone; her niece and nephew: Marie Salone and Steven Salone, all of Hickory, NC; two former students and lifelong friends: Joan (John) Napoli and Madeline (Daniel) Hotaling, all of Middleburgh along with many friends and former students.
June’s wishes were simple and a graveside committal of her cremains will be held in the spring, at Middleburgh Cemetery.
