Elaine J. Hotaling

Carlisle – Elaine J. Hotaling, of Becker Corners Road, found eternal peace from declining health on Saturday, May 18, 2019.

Born on April 4, 1958 in Cobleskill to Mary C. (DeCator) and Donald H. Filmer, she was the youngest of her family and lived with a fire and zest for life. She attended Cobleskill Central School and was not afraid of a good fight.

Her biggest adversary in school, a smart kid named Robert Hotaling, would challenge her prowess and a chance meeting years later proved that time changes people.  While still loving a good battle of whit and words, Elaine and Robert felt more desire fueled within and romance blossomed.  They were married on August 5, 1978 and continued to cherish each other’s love for over 40 years.

Elaine loved working in her garden, seeing beautiful flowers, horses and catching up on the tension and passion in “Days of Our Lives” on television.  She adored her family and also cherished fishing with her grandchildren.

She will be held forever in the hearts of her soulmate: Robert J. Hotaling of Carlisle, her beloved son and “Peanut:” James Hotaling and his fiancé: Jessica, of Fultonville; her grandchildren: Taylor, Tanner and Donavin; her brothers: Gary Filmer and Frank Filmer of Tennessee, Roger Filmer of Cobleskill, Robert Filmer; her beloved aunt Betty Cronk of Westerlo, who was like a second mom to Elaine; her brother and sister-in-law: Kenneth and June Hotaling of Schoharie and many other family members and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother: Ernest “Butch” Kuhn.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Coltrain Funeral Home, LLC, 134 River Street, Middleburgh. Interment will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery.  All are invited to visit with Elaine’s family from 11:00AM-12:00PM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
